This is a brief review of the IWB mag carriers from Sgt. Moose Custom Holsters. I purchased two of the double-stack, 10mm/.45 carriers at an Irving Gun Show this summer. It’s taken several months to put the carriers through a combination of day-to-day carry, long road trips, and intense training sessions in both hot and recently cool weather.
Here is a photo of one of the carriers next to a popular double-mag pouch, the Bianchi Patrol-Tek. All mags are Glock 20, 15-rnd.
The Sgt. Moose carrier exposes slightly more of the mag, which makes it easier for me to get a quick indexing of the mag. in my support hand. I also liked the fact that there was ample room for adjusting tightness of fit, so the carrier provides excellent mag. retention. The Patrol-Tek allows the mags to slip out with virtually no effort, even with the retention screw completely tightened.
The carrier may be easily used with 1.5″ or 1.75″ belts and I found it very easy to adjust forward cant. I did experience a slight tendency of the carriers to shift over the course of a day’s activity when wearing a 5.11 belt, but no movement whatsoever with the thick 1.5″ leather belt I wear for security work.
While the carriers are designed to be placed entirely inside the waistband, they also worked when placed inside the belt but outside the pants. With a thick, leather belt, this placement provided me with better separation from a shirt with comparable print to the Bianchi. Stability was surprisingly good with the leather belt.
So far, the carriers have held up well in a variety of weather and travel conditions. I have adjusted the belt screw only once since initial purchase.
The individual 10mm/.45 carriers were priced at $35 at the Irving Gun Show and that price has held steady online at the Sgt. Moose web site.
Thanks for spending part of your day with Texas Gun Show Review.
