SHOT Show 2015 Day 3

Posted: January 23, 2015 in Show Reviews

My first order of the day was 50 push-ups.

followed by a direct order to cover the new Glock MOS pistols.  Of course, I went for the G40 in 10mm.  Talk about the most confusing product number in Glock history 🙂

g40-1

Felt good, same clumsy trigger, and I liked the red dot.  Here is a closeup.

All other models are looking at Q1 shipment to dealers.  The rep I talked to claimed that Glock is very sensitive about issues with some Gen-4 pistols and high-impulse ammo, so they are holding the G40 release back for further testing.  He specifically mentioned Underwood and Buffalo Bore as key components of their test cycle.

I thought the UTAS 12ga AR-style shotgun, built on a .308 platform, was interesting.

Pat Harrington of Shotgun Blasters seemed to interested.

In fact, Shotgun Blasters must be doing really well based on Pat’s reaction to questions in the Beretta booth.

On the subject of long guns, the Caracal CS 308 sniper rifle seemed rather popular (26″ bbl, 1-in-12).

Cobalt is a relatively new vendor, specializing in AR platforms with fully ambidextrous controls.  The forward assist doubles as a bolt release.  That did take a bit of getting used to, but the rifles were light and well balanced.  Lots of interesting colors if you’re into that.

I’ve shot Coonan’s before and it’s by far the best .357 mag experience you will ever have.  If you are a dealer and like 1911’s, this is a must-carry option.  Here are a couple new models.

and, here is the man responsible for all that goodness.

CORE introduced a large number of new products, the star of which seemed to be the System-X4.

CZ was also a player in the large line of pistols and SBR’s across the floor.

The DP-12 is a new entry into the shotgun market.  Rack once, then fire twice.  Make it rack once and fire two at a time and you might have a winner.  The engineers seemed to agree.  Wait for the upgrade on this one.

Kick-Lite specializes in recoil-reduction products.  They are partnering with Phoenix stocks for a ‘Lock, Stock, and Barrel’ product for Glocks.  9mm version is shipping now with other calibers to follow.  Replacement barrel kit will include a shroud.

Mossberg introduced the Patriot series bolt-action rifles in eleven calibers from 22-250 Rem to 375 Ruger.

and the Blaze 47 rifles give you the look and feel of an AK-47 in a .22LR platform.

Here is the new Puritan (7.62×39) from POF along with the War Hog that was up for raffle.

Tracking Point had a display where you simulated taking a one-mile shot.  Maybe on day I’ll win the lottery 🙂

On my current hot subject of 300 BLK, here is a new model from Wyndam.

PSA announced an AK-47 supposedly built with 100% US parts, although there was a bit of waffling on that statement. We’ll see, but very exciting if true.

I still have a lot to cover today, including a stop by Eagle Imports to see if they have the Grand Power 10mm on display.  Update same time tomorrow. Thanks again for spending part of your day with Texas Gun Show Review.
